Project Abstract The main objective of this three year project was to develop a clear understanding of the role of the zebra mussel in lake ecosystems and in particular the relationship between phosphorus concentrations zebra mussel populations and the trophic status of Lough Key. The objectives also aimed to: i Contribute to a better environment by delivering applicable and relevant RTDI data and information based on high quality science and technology i) Generate data information and knowledge for improved management of the environment ii) Develop new techniques methods and systems for measuring recording and predicting the quality of the environment. This is in line with the development aims of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) which has been transposed into national law (S.I. No. 722 of 2003).
