Project Abstract | This project will examine the impact of future climate change on water resources in Ireland. Hydrological simulations will be carried out to compare runoff generated under future climate scenarios with runoff generated under baseline conditions. Downscaled GCM predictions of rainfall and evaporation will be used to drive the physical process-based hydrological model HYSIM. Emphasis will be placed upon the effects of climate change on the frequency and duration of low flows and the magnitude and recurrence intervals of flood events. The impact of future land use changes will also be simulated under each scenario. The analysis will focus on several river catchments which will be selected on the basis of a number of criteria. |
