| Project Abstract | The study will support the visitation of a graduate student from the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to University College Dublin to undertake analyses of heavy metals in sediment and plant materials from rivers in Addis Ababa as well as sediment collected from the Avoca River, Co. Wicklow. Additional recent heavy metal data will be provided from mining areas in Ireland. The project will provide an opportunity to examine heavy metal contamination in Irish waters, in particular sediment, in the context of the unregulated discharge of pollutants seen in Ethiopia and to consider threshold values. |
