Project Abstract | Using cutting edge techniques this project will provide greater understanding of the processes and factors control emissions of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O). It will evaluate a range of methods to reduce N2O emissions from Irish grazed grasslands from field to farm scales. The objectives are to identify the regulators of N2O emissions and assess a range of options to reduce emissions at a range of scales using cutting edge techniques. This research will lead to reduced N2O emissions from farms while maintaining production thus will de-coupling intensification and production increase from rises in GHG emissions. This will further improve agricultural emissions intensity, GHG emissions per unit product, underpinning Bord Bia?s Origin Green Strategy of sustainable food production. |
