Dr. Shahumyan has over 12 years experience specialising in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geo-spatial analysis and modelling, data analysis and data management with a focus on land use, urban modelling, spatial planning, healthcare, environment, and spatial decision supporting systems. He has a Master degree in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Engineering. From 2001 to 2004 Dr Shahumyan did his first post-doctoral research on statistical modelling at the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems of National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Meanwhile, he expanded his career as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge visiting the Centre of Applied Medical Statistics three times between 2002 and 2005. In 2008 Dr Shahumyan joined University College Dublin (UCD) as a Post-Doctoral Researcher. In 2014 Harut has moved to University of Maryland to carry on his research project GeoSInPo in scope of recently granted EU FP7 Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship. Here his work is focused on integration of different models at the National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education. Dr Shahumyan will return to University College Dublin in August 2016 to implement his new knowledge and experience in Ireland.
