Organisation or Individual Expertise:
I am a lecturer in both the Departments of Architecture and Education and teach at degree and masters level. My areas of expertise are: Landscape Ecology/History, Environmental Assessment, Environmental Education, and Curriculum and Assessment. My PhD was multidisciplinary, involving the evaluation and characterisation of an area of landscape in England from both an ecological and historical perspective utilising GIS. Hence a multidisciplinary methodology of landscape assessment was developed. My current research follows on from my PhD and is involved with landscape assessment and characterisation in the Irish context, based in South Kilkenney. In addition I have a small scale research project involving the utilisation of school grounds for environmental education based in Waterford County. I have presented at conferences and published on landscape ecology, landscape history and landscape assessment. I have supervised over 20 taught masters dissertations. Furthermore I am founder and Company Director of Russell Ecological services which specialises in EIAs, habitat management/reconstruction and wildlife gardens for education.
