I specialise in point of use water treatment technologies, primarily for the developing world. The main focus of my water related research is on Solar, Photo-optical and Photocatalytic treatment of biological and chemical contaminants in water. Since most of the technologies are for use in the developing world my emphasis has always been on low cost and sustainable interventions

I coordinated the SODISWATER FP6 STREP (EU contract 031650). \"Solar Disinfection of Drinking Water for use in Developing Countries or in Emergency Situations\" Total Budget = €2.6 million, EU Contribution €1.9 million, RCSI Budget €283,000. Ten Partner organistaions in eight nations across three continents. I partcipate annually in the EU SFERA programme which funds access to research facilities across the EU. Specifically I use SFERA funds to conduct field experiments at the solar research facility in Almeria in Spain (see www.psa.es)
