Organisation or Individual Expertise:
Since 2012 I have been researching extreme weather in the early medieval period (400 - 1100 CE) and have an extensive database which is particularly valuable for identifying long-term patterns and associations between extreme weather events such as droughts and floods and periods of societal stress, such as the outbreak of a major epidemic. It has also proven useful in calibrating ice-core chronologies, reducing margins of error to 0 for certain years. See for instance Sigl et. al. 'Timing and Climate Forcing of Volcanic Eruptions for the Past 2,500 Year', Nature, 523 (2015), 543 - 9. I'm an historian, with good Latin and a network of colleagues with other language skills (e.g. Chinese, Arabic) to access the historical data of the written sources for past climate extremes and societal impact. I have a database of thousands of historical references to extreme weather, societal stress or unusual atmospheric events. Recent papers: Michael Sigl, et. al. 'Timing and Climate Forcing of Volcanic Eruptions for the Past 2,500 Year', Nature, 523 (2015), 543 - 9. ChaoChao Gao, et. al. 'Reconciling Multiple Ice-Core Volcanic Histories: The Potential of Tree-Ring and Documentary Evidence, 670-730 CE', Quaternary International 394 (2016).
