Associate Professor in hydrogeology and environmental engineering at Trinity College Dublin, and a Fellow of the College. Also Vice President of the International Association of Hydrogeologists. Research interests include: • groundwater vulnerability and contamination • recharge and reliable yields of groundwater sources • air pollution monitoring and evaluation. Author or co-author of more than 100 journal papers, books, research reports and conference papers. Also, co-author of over 50 consultancy reports for organisations including the World Bank, UNDP and government agencies, and contributor to several ‘best practice’ technical guidance documents published by the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Environmental Protection Agency. Previously worked for 18 years as a consultant hydrogeologist, becoming head of the Groundwater Department of Consulting Engineer Mott MacDonald and a Director of the firm\'s Environment and Water Resources Division. Professional experience includes water resources projects in Ireland, UK, Oman, Czechoslovakia, Bahrain, Sudan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Libya and Nigeria.
