Project Abstract This Water Call Project 8 will inform the water industry in Ireland regarding the issues surrounding lead service pipework and the effectiveness of the options available for addressing elevated lead concentrations in drinking water, in particular the folliowing: *The relative contribution of lead from different elements of the water supply system including lead service pipework, lead from solder, brass fittings and taps *The effect of different levels of service pipe replacement (partial and full replacement) or rehabilitation on reducing levels of lead leached from service pipework and quantification of the reductions in lead concentrations achievable from partial pipe replacement versus full replacement *The suitability of service pipe lining as an alternative to pipe replacement in areas of elevated lead concentrations *Examination of the potential for optimisation of treatment plant operation through pH adjustment as an alternative to service pipe replacement or rehabilitation to reduce lead leaching potential *The quantification of the effect of stagnation on lead concentrations measured at a consumers tap and recommendations on the sampling techniques to be employed to facilitate comparison of lead levels spatially and measure the effects of lead reduction measures over time.
